State of the Dork Address

I wanted to take this opportunity to make an announcement or three.

IRAN: Why I keep posting updates from Iran on Twitter and Facebook

I am a journalist. I am a proud member of the Milwaukee Press Club, and I've been writing and self publishing articles for the last two years. I haven't made a single dime doing it, but I AM doing it. There are a lot of people out there in my position who are just as broke and have no job, but they've chosen to take retail positions, technical writing jobs, and other various career paths because they do not want to starve. I can't fault them for that. I've been trying to do the same. Until I do, however, I feel I have a responsibility to spread information. News is like that, and usually, to be honest, I don't have much to do because the main stream media outlets pretty much have it covered. This is especially true in my chosen field of journalism: entertainment. Hell, even CNN has it's own version of Access Hollywood. But then the elections in Iran went wrong, and I found myself in a pretty weird place.

Facebook whispers, "No"... WATCHMEN humor

Now go watch the WATCHMEN trailer again!

Wizard World Chicago

So, Press pass for WWC has been approved, and we should get some good coverage out of the event, though I won't be able to get there til afternoon on Friday... So far, Death Walks the Streets/Scream Factory is on my to do list, as well as the premiere of Batman: Gotham Knight. Any other suggestions, feel free to toss them my way!

Where will I be tonight?

Covering the premiere of Clubless at Gurnee Cinema in Gurnee, Illinois! Show starts at 11pm, and it may be the only theatrical film I enjoy this weekend... See you at the movies!

Coming Soon: Jim Butcher Interview and more

Sorry we took the week off without warning, but between school and life, something had to give. Very soon I should have the Jim Butcher interview up for your viewing pleasure, as well as bits from the audience Q&A he did afterward! Also, reviews from me, Ken and Cheryl, and maybe a few surprises along the way!

2007

So that's over... What a year, huh?

I wanted to take a moment to let you all know what's on the horizon here at Dorkgasm for 2008.

We will not publish a VILLAIN OF THE WEEK this week (1/4/08) because next week we are publishing VILLAIN OF THE YEAR 2007, and boy is it a doozy. Some of you have said we are the Drudge Report or Dork Culture. Just wait till next week and you'll see how true that is! Fuck the fans? All I can say is: WE ARE THE FANS!

Why so serious?

Thanks for all the fish

To all that have helped with this site so far this year, I give thanks!

To Joel Bolyard: Thank you sir for the level head and the shared sense of vision. Damn, we're on the right path now, aren't we? Good luck on the GRE later this year, and let's see where we can take this in the meanwhile.

To Chris Anderson: Thank you for the amazing work getting the site up and keeping it running smoothly!

8 Films to Die For

So far so good at the AFTER DARK HORRORFEST. The folks at the theater we are going to have been great, and the audiences all really receptive. For those that don't know, we here at Dorkgasm are not exactly quiet film goers. Personally, I scream like a little girl when zombies are involved, and no film that lapses into dumbness is safe from lampooning... I blame Tom Servo and Croooooooow. There's one day left, but the last film of each night seems to get a lot of attention from us.
